Windsor Hams Join Canadian DMR Network

Windsor DMR Digital Mobile Radio Toronto VE3UUU VA3XPR c-bridge DMR-MARC Ontario amateur ham

Great news for the Canadian ham radio community! On April 25, 2013, the VE3UUU DMR repeater in Windsor, ON, was officially connected to the Canadian arm of the DMR-MARC network, otherwise known as DMR-MARC Canada, thereby providing hams in the Windsor area with full access to the DMR-MARC worldwide network.

To access this system, hams will need a DMR capable radio, which are built by several manufacturers, including Motorola, Vertex Standard, Harris and Hytera, to name a few. Any hams in the Windsor area with a DMR capable radios will be able to use the VE3UUU DMR repeater to communicate with other hams using any of the following virtual channels, otherwise known as “talk-groups”:

  • World Wide talk-group;
  • North America talk-group;
  • Canadian national talk-group;
  • Ontario provincial talk-group;
  • Local Windsor area talk-group;

To access the VE3UUU DMR repeater, the frequency is 444.4000 MHz, with a +5.0 MHz offset.

Canadian DMR C-Bridge Launches

c-Bridge DMR Repeater Toronto VA3XPR Rayfield Communications amateur radio ham IPSC

On February 23rd, Canada took it’s first step toward the creation of a national amateur radio DMR network with the launch of the first inter-provincial DMR networking server. This server, known commonly as a “c-Bridge”, which is manufactured by Rayfield Communications, will serve as a network hub for Canadian amateur radio DMR repeaters, allowing them to reliably link to one another and to the larger DMR-MARC global network using the Internet. The Canadian c-Bridge is located in Montreal and is currently supporting several DMR repeaters in Ontario and Quebec, including the VA3XPR digital DMR repeater located in downtown Toronto.

A special thanks goes out to all who made the launch of the Canadian c-Bridge possible, including Alain, VA2SPB, Chris, VE3BNI, Stephane, VE2TAX, Pierre, VE2PRT, Mike, AA9VI, JP, KC9KKO, John, W0PM and Don, VA3XFT.
